Is Your Company’s Electricity Supply Unreliable? Here’s What To Do

Written by

It’s no secret that commercial buildings tend to use more electricity than domestic properties. It makes no difference whether your company only has a small office building or a large factory; it will still use a lot of juice.

For the most part, companies can enjoy a reliable supply of electricity. After all; that’s partly why they pay their electricity bills! But, for some companies, their supply of electricity is mediocre at best.

Regular power cuts and spikes in supply can spell disaster for some companies. While for others, irregular electricity supplies are more than just a mile inconvenience. Are you a company owner? Are you fed up of your unreliable electricity supply?

If the answer to both of those questions is yes, it’s time to take action. But what can you do to improve the situation? It turns out there are plenty of options available to you! The following guide will offer a few useful suggestions.

Complain to your electricity supplier

The first and most obvious step is to make a formal complaint to your electricity supplier. You can usually phone them and make a complaint that way. But some suppliers prefer to receive complaints in writing only.

Suppliers have a duty to investigate if there are any problems with their infrastructure. At this point, they will then send a team of engineers out to diagnose the source of the problem.

Check the wiring at your premises

Is your electricity supplier claiming there is nothing wrong with their infrastructure? If so, the next step is to check your own wiring out. Sometimes faulty wiring in offices and industrial units can cause supply problems.

We are talking about hundreds or even thousands of volts of electricity flowing through your premises. For that reason, don’t attempt to diagnose the problem yourself!

Invest in a backup generator

Sometimes, supply problems might be down to circumstances beyond anyone’s control. Examples include freak natural events like tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. Your premises can be vulnerable if it is situated in a remote area too.

To maintain a consistent supply of electricity to your office or industrial buildings, you should consider investing in some backup generators. They vary in size and are powered by diesel or gas, so you’re bound to find out suitable for you.

When the electricity supply drops, the backup generator can take over until supply returns. They are cost-effective machines to own, and they are quite reliable too.

Take advantage of solar power

Are you based in a location with a direct view of the sky? If so, you might want to consider installing some solar photovoltaic panels and batteries. The sun’s energy can get converted into useable electricity. It is then stored in a series of high-capacity batteries.

There are plenty of ways you can use the sun’s energy. For instance, it can get used to heat water – useful for heating systems and washing facilities. Some companies even use solar power to generate electricity for office lighting.
